LAKE DOLORES: America’s First Water Park

Directed by filmmaker Dawn Fields

A documentary about the family-owned water park that sat off the side of the road between Los Angeles and Las Vegas beginning in the 1960s.

“The project was started many years ago when curiosity got the better of me every time I would drive from Los Angeles to Las Vegas. At that time the water park was never open, even though it seemed to still be well-maintained. So one day I pulled over and asked around. I was immediately introduced to Spike Lynch (who sadly passed in March 2021) who told me about the Byers family and the rich history of the park.

So I interviewed Spike, as well as as many of the Byers family members I could find who created and operated Lake Dolores from the 60s to the 90s. I was most fascinated with Dolores Byers and all the people who loved her and she has become the focus of my story.

The project was on hold for many years but is now ramping back up. There’s still a lot of work to be done on the film, but please join our email list above and I’ll keep you posted on the project.

Thank you so much!” — Dawn Fields
